DOL – Misclassification Webpage.

The U.S. Department of Labor has created a new webpage on the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. This has been an issue of particular concern for the federal and state governments over the past several years. According to a blog post by Secretary of Labor Tom Perez, misclassification deprives workers of “the protection of federal and state wage and safety laws”, while allowing companies to avoid paying payroll taxes. The webpage is part of the DOL’s attempt to address this issue, by providing information and resources to workers and businesses.
