A video of the presentation can be found embedded on the bottom of the webpage.

Now that the State General Assembly has overridden Governor Hogan’s veto of HB1, the “Maryland Healthy Working Families Act,” all Maryland employers will be required to provide either paid or unpaid “earned sick and safe” (ESS) leave to employees to use for themselves and to care for their family members. The law has complex technical requirements and aggressive penalties for violations. Even those employers who currently provide PTO or sick leave must ensure compliance with these new requirements. In our complimentary webinar, we will offer guidance on the following:

–           Which employers, employees and family members are covered by the law

–           The reasons for which ESS leave may be taken

–           Accrual and carryover provisions

–           Employee notice requirements and use of ESS leave

–           The employer’s right to verify the use of ESS leave

–           Employer notice and recordkeeping requirements

–           Prohibited actions, enforcement and penalties

–           The impact of an employer’s already existing sick leave or PTO policies

–           The interaction with sick and safe leave laws passed in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County
