The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit affirmed a summary judgment victory that Parker E. Thoeni won on behalf of a casket company. The trial court had dismissed the plaintiff’s claims of discrimination as being outside the scope of the plaintiff’s charge of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. (The filing of an EEOC charge on a specific discrimination issue is a prerequisite for filing suit about that same issue).
